U14s Victorious in County Netball Competition
Despite an early start on a Saturday morning, the U14 SHS netball team were bursting with excitement as they were about to compete in the district netball tournament.
The first team the girls faced was Healing and after a superb defensive match, the SHS came away with a 10-0 win. The team then went on to defeat local rivals Bourne Grammar School and some fantastic shooting led to a 12-5 win. After two fantastic displays of skill and ability the SHS girls continued their winning streak seeing off Fred Gough and Cordeaux.
Armed with 4 wins, the U14 girls entered the semi-final with some nervous excitement, knowing that if they won, they would go through to Regionals in January. Drawn against Lincoln Minister, the girls powered out from the start, and secured their place at Regionals with a fantastic 17-4 win. Despite already going to Regionals, they still wanted to win competition and go home undefeated. The final match was against Boston High School; the first half was well fought by the U14's, but they managed to hold Boston off to win 11-5, despite their amazing come back in the second half.
Cat Raitt, PE Teacher at Stamford High School, said: “A well-deserved first place for the U14's after a great day of netball. Congratulations to all the girls: Maddie Munro-Hall (C), Georgia Schein, Rhona Kelly, Alex Wilkinson, Maeve Macdonald, Rosie Beddows, Freya Jones, Alice Kilham, Megan Ellison and Sophie Skelton.”
Maddie Munro-Hall, captain of the U14 team, added: “We knew it was going to be a challenge but we really showed what Stamford was made of. The team can't wait for Repton in January!”
