1st XI Hockey Maintain 100% Record

Stamford School’s First XI, fresh from their victory over Perse School, played host to Oundle at the weekend.

The team have been free-scoring at present – destroying their opponents with slick inter-change play and counting attacking at pace. This style continued in the early exchanges versus Oundle, whereby inside 20 minutes, the hosts found themselves 3 goals to the good. With National League player, Joe Chedd providing incisive running and Tom Davies utilising his expert vision; this allowed Jamie Richardson, Tom MacDonald and Joe Chedd to all score before the half-time whistle.

Stamford, were then guilty of allowing the visitors a foothold in the game enabling them to concede 2 short corners and a bizarre own goal. The team dug deep and pressed Oundle shifting the dynamics of the game once more. Outletting from the back improved from James Dodworth and Henry Charlton, thus allowing the half-backs Dan Adams and Oliver Huxley to overload down both the left and right flanks. Through using the width of the pitch, this allowed Stamford to get behind the Oundle back-line, with Jamie Richardson making it 4-3. The pressure soon became insurmountable with Stamford’s counter attacking catching a weary Oundle on the break. Goals from Joe Chedd and Will Adams took the game beyond the reach of the visitors – final score 6-4.

Stamford School Sports Teacher, Jon Peckett, said “It was a well-earned victory for the 1stXI, though the team will have to improve at defensive penalty corner routines in order to kill the game off at an earlier juncture.”
