More Honours for Members of the First XV
At the end of a month that has seen two international call ups for Old Stamfordian rugby player’s opportunity knocks for three current players. Following the England Under 20 call up for Louis Grimoldby, 2010 leaver Lucas Hammond has been representing Canada in the IRB World Sevens Series in Wellington and George, South Africa. Three members of the First XV squad have finished the season on a high with representative selections.
Winger Tom Roper (Y12) has been rewarded for his efforts with a call up for the Holland U18 side for their upcoming test match with Germany this weekend in Amsterdam. Tom said: “It’s a great opportunity and a really exciting challenge. The game is really on the way up in Europe and it will be good to get home for a weekend!”
Fellow Stamford School First XV team mates, Charlie Dunbar and George Cox, have also been selected to represent the Midlands U18 Divisional side who will take on the North at Loughborough University in the middle of February.
Director of Rugby at Stamford School, David Laventure, said: “These divisional games are essentially a trial for England Schools, Charlie and George have done very well as Year 12 boys to push their way into the squad, they know elite level sport is all about the small margins in performance so we hope everything goes their way!”
