Comprehensive Victory for Stamford School First XV
Stamford School First XV notched up their second win of the season with a victory over Bedford Modern School on Saturday 12th September. The opening exchanges were fairly even until great support play and some crisp passing allowed winder Charlie Kaye to round his man and dot down. Only five minutes later, great work up front from Cutteridge and Beaver created a turnover ball, and quick hands from Warburton enabled Hegget-King to crash over in the corner.
Unfortunately, a defensive lapse from the home side was punished as an organisational problem allowed the Bedford fullback to chip and chase before grounding the ball. Stamford gave the best reply before half time, when Berridge assisted by Slater was driven over close to the breakdown. Felston converted. A consummate first half performance was topped off when Charlie Mays was able to stroll over, having benefitted from smart footwork and handling from centre colleague Freddie Berridge.
The second half brought more joy as good set piece work allowed Warburton to shoot down the blindside to score and later great hands from the backs saw James Hounslow under the posts to complete a comprehensive 34-7 victory.
It was a good day all round in the sunshine as the 2nd and 3rd also claimed wins. The 13As carried on their winning ways as did the C team. The 16As, 15As and Bs enjoyed great away success with wins at Bedford.
