Promising Results Ahead of the New Rugby Season

Stamford School Rugby team scrummageFollowing their successful tour of New Zealand, the Stamford School rugby First and Second XV ended their pre-season preparations competing in the Saracens Invitational Tournament staged at St Albans School.

The second XV, inspired by excellent performances by James Phillips and Harry Martin, came back from three narrow losses -including against the Beaumont College 1st XV (7-5) - to win their last two matches against the Norwich School 1st XV and a convincing 15-0 win over Colstons.

In the First XV competition Tom Gulland, Ethan Moss, Tom Pritchard and Louis Grimoldby were the stand out performers, leading their team to an impressive three victories out of five matches, including another 15-0 win over Colstons.

Master IC Rugby, David Laventure, was pleased with the results, commenting “This is a very competitive tournament featuring some of the best sides in the country. Both sides played some great rugby in rain and shine and can look forward to their season ahead with confidence.”

The results of the tournament were as follows:

1st XV

Beat Kings Wimbledon 7-0

Beat St Albans – 7-5

Lost to Filton College (Bristol Academy) 10-0

Beat Colstons 15-0

Lost to Bedford 15-0

2nd XV

Lost to Beaumont College 1st XV – 7-5

Lost to Kings Wimbledon 5-0

Lost to Filton College 12-7

Beat Norwich School 1st XV – 5-0
