Success for Stamford School Boys
Stamford School celebrated the success of its middle school rugby teams with some great news for some of the players. The Middle school teams performed extremely well; the under 16s only lost two games all season and the under 15s reached the Final 16 of the Daily Mail National knockout competition. Two of the under 16 players, Justin Bland and Louis Grimoldby, represented the School First XV and three of the players in the side – Justin Bland, Tom Pritchard and Will Bacon – have, following trials, been selected as part of the Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire under 17 development programme. This will allow them to push for Under 18 honours over the next two seasons.
In addition, centre Kieran Staunton and prop Ethan Moss from the under 15 team were selected to play for the Northampton Saints in an academy fixture at Franklins Gardens. The match had even more interest as the captain of the school side, Tom Gulland was also playing, but representing the Leicester Tigers! It was a good tough encounter with Tom smiling at the end as the Tigers won 21-5. Master in Charge of Rugby David Laventure added; “It’s great news for all the boys. We are very proud of them. All six boys have worked very hard and deserve a big hand shake! I’m pretty sure their exposure to a higher level of competition will only inspire them to work harder!”
