Lord Coe to officially open the new SES Sports Centre

On Friday 30th November, the Stamford Endowed Schools will welcome the Rt. Hon. Lord Coe to officially open their new Sports Centre and Memorial Pool. Lord Coe will tour the £6.1m facility, which includes a 25m swimming pool and a fitness suite, before presiding over the opening ceremony.

The opening comes at the end of the Schools’ own Olympic Legacy week, which aims to celebrate the many sporting successes of the Schools as well as the range of sports available. Indeed, during the visit there will be a showcase of sport at the Schools, taking place in the Centre and on the surrounding pitches. This includes displays of hockey, tennis, netball, squash, cricket, swimming, fencing, gymnastics, rugby and football.

Pupils will have the chance to talk to Lord Coe before he addresses the assembled guests and officially declares the building open.

Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, Stephen Roberts, said “With the success of the London 2012 Olympic Games and of Team GB, there has been a resurgence in the level of participation in sport across the country. Lord Coe has become a figurehead for this, and as such, the Schools are very fortunate to have him officially open the new Sports Centre and Memorial Pool. The Centre gives pupils access to first-class facilities, such as the fitness suite and pool, which will help them enjoy sports at recreational and competitive levels.”
