Triathlon Team Take Part in the Speedy Beaver
A group of students from the Stamford Endowed Schools triathlon team had a break from exam revision to take part in the ‘Speedy Beaver’ triathlon at Belvoir Castle.
The race commenced at 8am on the 9th June with a 750m swim in the lake. Although considerably warmer than the team’s debut open water swimming session in Rutland Water last month, it was still a gruelling start.
The cycle ride was a reasonably pleasant 20 K, apart from the climb back up to the castle grounds at the end. The 5K run was then relatively easy! Angus Smith and Marcus Widdess did very well, finishing close behind the GB team boys in their age group (under 20). Being young for this category they have a promising future. Sam Widdess who favours the cycling aspect produced an excellent time in this component. Ted Cliffe and Harry Brooks also finished with good times.
Men's under 20 winning time 1:07.33
Angus ( Y13) 1.14:59
Marcus (Y11) 1.16:28
Sam lost his timing chip in the lake so only had approximate times; Ted finished in 1.33 whilst Harry had a puncture and needed carry his bike for the last couple of miles, so finished in 1.44 and Mrs Cliffe finished with her chip and no puncture in 1.42. Well done to everyone for the efforts!
