Browne House provides boarding for senior boys aged 15-18
Browne House is a purpose-built boarding house, accommodating those boys studying for GCSE and A level examinations. The house is situated centrally in the school campus, adjoining the main cricket, rugby and athletics fields.
Owing to its older range, Browne House has a distinctive ethos. It aims to build on, and maintain, the extended family atmosphere of Byard and St Paul’s, but with an increasing level of expectation of independence from the young men in the house. Boarders at GCSE level are allocated single or double study bedrooms and sixth form students enjoy single studies, which are mainly en-suite. With four resident tutors and a matron, there is excellent tutor and support provision. The Housemaster lives on site and is assisted by the house tutors.
Browne House offers single and double bedrooms to all students, some with en-suite facilities. The bedrooms have modern furniture and an area equipped for study. The young men in the house have access to snooker, pool, table tennis, table football, and Sky television across three recreation rooms. There is also a Quiet Room, with networked PCs and a colour printer, which is heavily used and a communal kitchen. Wi-Fi is available throughout the house.
At the weekends there is an extensive programme of activities, including paintballing, karting, clay pigeon shooting, skiing, sailing, visits to ice hockey and rugby fixtures, and to theme parks and the cinema.
