Stamford School

geographyGeography, due to its enjoyment in school and its increasing relevance to our lives in the outside world, is a very popular GCSE option. Areas studied span all scales from local problems to worldwide topics. The course is highly relevant and includes contemporary human issues such population growth, ageing populations, migration flows, global urban issues, impacts of tourist activities, and physical topics of glaciation and glacial landscapes, geology and their impact on people and plate tectonics. Geography provides young people with greater awareness of day to day lives and contributes to their employability.

At the end of Year 10 there are two optional field trips; one to the Swiss Alps and the other to the West Coast USA (students select one or the other). In addition there will be local fieldwork opportunities during the two-year course to support the course and controlled assessment tasks.
