Golf has been played at all levels for many, many years at Stamford, and there can be very few schools who can boast a Ryder Cup Captain and player as an old boy. Mark James left the school to pick up the English Amateur Open in 1974 and the Walker Cup in 1975 before turning professional.
Our proximity to Greetham Valley and Rutland County Golf Clubs allows many students to play out of school time, and the Schools Cup is keenly contested at Burghley Park Golf club in the grounds of Burghley House.
The big event in our golfing calendar is the Quad Tournament at Luffenham Heath with Oakham, Oundle and Uppingham, which Stamford last won in 2005. Burghley Park is where the School team play their home fixtures, and is also the scene of many victories that the staff have enjoyed over the School and the Old Stamfordian Club!
