Music is one of our particular strengths; we have an outstanding Junior School orchestra, with children as young as seven participating. The orchestra gives many popular concerts. There are numerous recorder groups and year bands. The majority of pupils play some form of instrument and free group tuition in strings and brass occurs for a year as part of the curriculum. Our visitors often comment that there is music at nearly every corner you turn in the Junior School!
In the last full week of the Summer Term, Year 6 children participate in ‘Stage Six’, a week-long musical theatre workshop, which is now in its sixth year at Stamford Junior School. Each class perform one act of a brand new musical, which last year was ‘Rock N’ Roller’, written and directed by Old Stamfordian Jonathan Fisher. Rehearsals begin on the Monday, and the children enthusiastically learn all the choreography and direction within a remarkably short amount of time.
Our pupils actively experience a wide spectrum of music and drama and delight in presenting their own productions to a range of audiences. These, in addition to the more formal plays and concerts, are most enjoyable and always of a very high standard.
