Sport is an important and integral aspect of life at Stamford School. Through the curriculum, extra-curricular clubs, the house system and representative sport, we aim to foster and promote healthy attitudes to physical activity throughout a student’s school career and, more importantly, for life.
Stamford School enjoys an enviable sporting tradition and reputation, and, through the excellence of the facilities and the teaching and coaching, the students are provided with a wide range of opportunities to compete and participate in an impressive variety of activities.
The school can fall back on a wealth of coaching experience. The rugby coaching is lead by Mr David Laventure and Mr Austin Kersey who have both coached and played at representative level. The Hockey in the School is run by head of Hockey Mr Matt Bartell who has a vast playing history in the top tier of Australian Hockey and also an extensive coaching portfolio in Australia and the UK. The main summer game comes under the watchful eye of England fast bowler Dean Headley, who, having played in an Ashes series, is well positioned to help and develop our young cricketers.
We are in a privileged position to enjoy extensive on-site playing fields, squash courts, a well-equipped sports hall, floodlit tennis courts and Astroturf. We are also able to share facilities with our sister school only 5 minutes away. The Sports Centre houses a state of the art weights and fitness room as well as a 25m swimming pool.
