Stamford School is blessed with a large number of all-weather tennis courts, enabling the sport to be played at most times of the year. The Astroturf pitch is devoted to tennis in the Summer, and the floodlights make play possible late into the evenings.
Tennis is highly popular at the school and is played by a large number of pupils of all ages. Competition is provided by a comprehensive fixture list with other schools, the annual inter-House competitions and individual tournaments. The school competes each year with great success in the District Tournament, and school players have achieved individual representative success in the broader arena.
Coaching is given within the curriculum as the major option in the Summer Term from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form and at special training sessions for school team players. It is also offered on Saturday mornings and after school. Many pupils play purely for pleasure in their own time. Some elect to join the Stamford Tennis Club, which uses the school’s courts during the evenings and holidays.
